The CRISBECQ BATTERY was manned by the German Navy under Ensign Ohmsen with 300 men. The battery duelled with shipping off Utah Beach, sinking and damaging some allied ships and itself sustaining considerable damage. The position held out until 12 June when Ensign Ohmsen evacuated the position with the remaining 78 unwounded men and withdrew to Cherbourg. The Battery was taken by the 39th Infantry Regiment. The Azzeville Battery is nearby and was involved in the same action.
