In addition to service around the world with the British Army, he has served with NATO and did a three-year exchange with the US Army. He is passionate about military history and his special interest in the D-Day campaign was enhanced after buying a house in Normandy. He has considerable local knowledge of the restaurants, hotels and the Norman tradition of good food and drink, and has an extensive collection of films, books and archive material about the Normandy Campaign.
